Hey guys, just reporting in to let everyone know that the Steam-exclusive update just launched, and the game has officially become $9.99 to download on Steam because of the loss of premium accounts. This moves the game away the pay structure of subscriptions and extra content just to make a quick buck, but the news unfortunately came without notice.

However, I have read that this price is not intended to affect those who already owned the game, but were reluctant to use Steam for whatever reason. To get around it, you may email [e-mail] with your QL player name and associated email to prove that you already owned the game before the price appeared. Support is able to send you a Steam key, which acts as a CD key that adds the game to your library for free.

For those who aren't so "Steam-savvy", once you have a Steam key you can check out the top navigation bar and click Games -> Activate a Product on Steam, and it will prompt you to input the product code/Steam key. I agree that they should have warned about this price ahead of time, but they did allow us to transfer to Steam for a while now. It sounds like a miscommunication over an intended purpose. So.. Since I've been playing QL on Steam I'm ok?   I'll boot into Win7 and see what happens.. Also I have Pro sub..Is that gone now?

Anyone who had quake on steam will be fine.

Anyone else (like me) will have to either email support for code or play $9.99.

Yep, and Syncerror has been telling people that you can easily get a product key from a quick email to support. Reports show this is true.

I think thewookster was on Steam for other games. A lot of people held out until now.

I got lucky.. Since I finally got Win 7 to bootcamp on my mac last week, I went Steam for QL since this update was coming.

Just did the update.. All good, no money asked for. So far I'm loving the change..It's more of how they should have done the game instead of all the crap over the last few years.   Better late then never..

Pill is already up and running a FT server.. Nice...

Yea, I just never bothered with quake on steam.  I kinda wanted to wait until I had no choice because i'm not steams biggest fan if i'm honest.

Plus couldn't port over because i'm basically on dial-up speeds until tomorrow so would have taken me a month to even download it lolololol

I have USF4 and can still annoy you lot here and over at the steam group channel trolol

Also if you need help with setting up servers and stuff ask over at #clanchill i'm sure someone there will help you out.  if i'm there I'll stamp my feet until someone does.

Did a little research on that. The Normal PC will make a Horrible Server. Even if you had a High End PC, you would still need Great Internet. I am at 150x15. Not enough up. You would need, Say, something Like FIOS. Where Up is the Same as down. 100x100 seems to be the right Place to be for a Server. But at $100 a Month for FIOS for that Speed, its not out of my price range, but it is not offerd in my Area.

I am upgrading to that soon for unrelated reasons Lowlife Although yes, you are right that home PCs do not make great servers to host games.
