I've never played Q3 so I'm hoping someone can enlighten me as to how this whole QL thing will work once it goes to community run servers. How do you find servers in Q3? Is there a central place to find all of the currently running servers or is everything all splintered an unorganized? I was reading something about how most servers are currently restricted to 10-12 players and more players equals a higher server cost, does this mean the end to big games? I hope not, 8v8 FT is the BEST!!!! How will the shuffle system work if there is no stats or records or elo support?
On a related note...is there a game everyone would be willing to jump into together if QL dies? I've sort of become fond of FT so any game with FT would be great. Does Relfex have FT yet? Does Reflex have CTF yet? I like playing with you guys and it would be a shame if I had to find a new gaming "family".

haha thanks!
<syncerror> QLRanks could be rebuilt using our new Stats API
<syncerror> But they probably won't, instead some other community group will most likely create something similar.
<syncerror> No reason they couldn't.
A new API for statistic logging and calculation sounds like exactly what QL needs IMO. No community intervention really needed if they put that in place.
As far as your concerns over server numbers and sizes, just click on the match browser in QL right now and see how many empty servers id pays for to run. The cost does add up, and many of the servers that are populated most of the time are community-run anyway (UFT, Pill FT, CA Madhouse, oso, etc.). This seems like a logical move for id and definitely a good time to do it given the change over to the Steam client. I don't think max server size will be affected..

I sure hope things work out. I guess I'm just worried I won't be able to find any servers that aren't CA. Since Icebrand stopped hosting pub CTF and after the UFT server went private, the Pill server is the only one I ever play on with any kind of regularity now. Team combat servers have all but died too. If this is good news then I'm all for it. I hope it's good news.

So I'm sure that Pro subs will be able to still start a server as they balance server availability .vs paying members. And I agree.. If you set the QL client filter to all game modes and everywhere.. I see hundreds of empty and unused servers.. This is a good economic step for QL. Also by enabling players to set up servers from home, that should end the crying on lag time..cause most people can not set up a decent server to handle the traffic from home. Set up a server on a commercial company that caters to gamers.. Sure.. But then it's gonna cost you a hell of a lot more then your $35 a year Pro sub.. More like $20 a month for decent bandwidth.. But it's good to see that QL will be offering different choices now. People will decide which server is best for them...

This is mostly like that since you can't vote for next map except if you have pro account ... You play ft then you have to play tdm or domination... And tdm is team of 5 and ft is set to 6 so one player of each team can't continue to play if game go from ft to tdm...

It's my understanding that most of them do not like large games. They would prefer to do 4v4 or 3v3 FT so they went private to keep the rest of us out and keep their games small. On a side note, I'm fixing my Wii...anyone play Mario Kart? My name on there is DragRacer, as soon as it's fixed I'll get my friend code thing, add me!!!

So we are not totally Banned from playing in their room?
I have a Wii. Has not been used in years. Maybe I will see what I can do in the next few days.. All I ever used it for was for Wii Bowling.

No we are not banned. They just keep their server password protected so only their clan can get in. When they open it up to the public they have PUB after their server name. Unfortunately they usually open it up so late in the evening that you'll be lucky to get a 3v3 going so it's more fun to join the Pill server. But no, nobody got banned.

If you do I'll join. I might be a little later than I'd like (lots of work left to do) but I'll be there. I'll do my best to drag Pearl in kicking and screaming as well.
Personally I prefer ufreeze but I know Pearl would probably want to try the classic settings (no loadouts, keep weapons between rounds, etc.) and I know you've been working on those settings. Either one you create, I'll join.
