Quick question, guys...
Is there any interest for any DNA members (well, I say DNA, but any Drunk/Qrunk members as well) to participate in a community-run tournament? This will be designed to help newer players get used to playing the game a bit more seriously than before, current "old" players at getting out of their comfort zone and meeting new people, and experienced (read: mid-T4 players and above) players at practicing for hardcore competitions. I'm working on this with a friend of mine, and we'd like to know if there's any interest at all in this (let your friends from other clans know as well- the more interest the better it'll be!).
We plan on running this during the summer- we're hoping to get it started around mid-late June and end it in July. If all goes well, we'll be able to run Duel (1v1), Clan Arena or Capture the Flag (5v5, for both), and/or Clan Arena (1v1). Ideally we'd like to have about fifty matches total spread out over a month or so, and the top placing competitors will receive prizes.
If you're interested in competing or helping out, or if you have any questions, feel free to comment here, or PM me.

Which gamemode would you like to compete in, gangland? Also, I feel like it's only fair to state right now that this will proceed only if there is enough interest generated- so if (arbitrary numbers for now) ten teams sign up for CTF or CA, and/or 50 people sign up for CA 1v1 or Duel, we'll proceed. Also, in a couple of weeks, we're going to release our main website for this, so you can sign up directly according to what you want to play

Since FFA is not on the list, just Parade me into any of those. And I guess I will take my Licks accordingly.

I'm interested in CA. However playing CTF with the guys has lit a bit of a fire. I think I'd be ok if I was just given a "position" to play, and counted on to do that job alone. Duel too, but only people of my skill level, as I can't time items for crap.

lowlife: Depending on interest, I'll figure out a good placement for you And who knows, if enough people are interested, we could try to run FFA once a week for the duration of the tourney. @cando: By the time we release the website, hopefully there's something a bit more concrete that grabs your interest (as to gamemode). Also, welcome! Gangland: If you can find a team, by all means, sign up for CTF And really, that's what we want to do with this- get people to try things in new environments (comp, casual, whatever gets your blood flowing) and improve and (hopefully) discover/rediscover their love for QL

Sounds like fun to me. I really hope there's enough interest to make this happen, I'll spread it around for sure. I'd be down for CTF, duel and regular team based CA.
Gangland, if your CTF team needs a player I'm available! I'm in the same dueling boat as you, I think it sounds like fun but I'm not real good at timing items yet. So if there's a place for people like that I'm in.

FunkyFlava: Sweet, I really hope more people (outside the clan and inside the clan) do express interest when we go fully live with the site. Also, everyone, please remember to spread the word about this, it can only help! (We're also considering streaming matches to twitch.tv- all matches at quarter-finals and above might be streamed if we do this, and all matches at semis and above will be recorded without anyone requesting it. If we do decide to stream, then we'll also upload the videos- hopefully with commentary if we can get more people experienced at Quake to help out- to YouTube, if players request it.)

I'm absolutely interested in participating, but I'm not able to say anything specific until I know what's happening with my two jobs this summer. I'm down for just about any game type, though.

How many Players do we need to make this happen? Will it be open only to Friends and current Clans? Will there be Tier Classes? Or just everyone jumps in the pool? Also I would be willing to donate a Prizes or two for the cause. Just a couple of thoughts.

How many Players do we need to make this happen? Will it be open only to Friends and current Clans? Will there be Tier Classes? Or just everyone jumps in the pool? Also I would be willing to donate a Prizes or two for the cause. Just a couple of thoughts. Good questions! The number of players: We want at least 20 people on Duel (or 1v1 CA) to make this happen. For the team-based gamemodes, we're hoping for at least 8 teams (CA/CTF). Right now, we don't have a full estimate of how many people are interested in competing or helping out on the staff-team, so we can't give any accurate measure as to how many people will be the sign-up limit. It'll depend on how many people express interest, how many staff members we can get, and also how many servers we can run each night. Additionally, for the first "season", we'll be looking at maybe one of the 1v1 gamemodes and one of the team-based gamemodes. Of course, it'll depend on how many people sign up, or express interest in each. Will it be open only to Friends and current Clans? I'm not exactly sure what you mean here- are you asking if it's just friends and current clans of mine? If so, the answer is no- it's open to everyone who wants to compete. Will there be Tier Classes? Yes, to an extent. It will be split into a Casual stream and a Competitive steam. The best twenty players or so (depending on the total numbers, again; the skill level will be based on ELO from QLRanks and their ingame profile (especially skillrating as shown in the console)) will be guaranteed spots in the Competitive stream. This is where the high-level prizes come into play for the top 3 players or so (depending on the quantity and quality of prizes we can guarantee). For the Casual stream, we'll take the people who didn't qualify for the Competitive stream, and give the lowest-ranked players a chance to play in a competitive way. Again, this will depend on how many servers and staff members (and therefore the number of spots) we can guarantee. Ideally, we'll have everyone playing (because we'll have enough staff members to run enough servers at once). If we can't have that, we'll quite likely be doing an Open Server Night once a week, where anyone signed up with the tournament (but didn't get a spot to play in one of the two main streams) can play. Regarding prizes/donations: We welcome all donations (we're but poor, humble students). We'll be using kickstarter to try to raise the initial funds for this (pro/premium accounts for the entire QLC Staff team, along with prizes), so if you'd like to donate to us, there's always that. If the prizes you wish to donate are of a different nature, then please, feel free to contact me.

Double post; sorry. I'm not sure if I should make a separate post, so I'll avoid spamming the forum with extra posts... We've prepared a little survey to gauge interest in the tournament- it'll just help us have more concrete numbers. Feel free to fill it out, it's really quick; and also share it with any QL playing friends you have. goo.gl/fa8O7g

Triple post; sorry again.
Just a quick update...
It's looking like the 1v1 gamemode will be Duel. We have about fifty people interested, so from the qualifiers to the finals will take us about 3 weeks. Right now, the team-based gamemodes are split pretty evenly between CA/CTF/TDM, so we don't know what'll happen there just yet. There will be another poll coming soon, this time with more information about the team-based gamemodes. Remember, we will only run the team-based segment of the tournament only if a minimum of eight teams sign up for the same gamemode (again, there will be more on this in another poll).
