Hey everybody, DSG here. I'm interested in doing a write-up (essay format) about what makes a competitive game successful in the modern ESports scene- particularly based on FPS games. Quake is pretty much the only competitive game I play (other than the occasional TF2) now, since Tribes: Ascend died. If anybody has thoughts on what makes Quake and other competitive FPS games (or even any FPS games), I'd be really interested in hearing about it. Note: I'm just doing this for fun, and also so I can have something codified that I can pull out during arguments and discussions. This is in no way for school-work, and it will take a fair amount of time to do. I'm not intending on this being spread widely, though I might post it on reddit (everybody who contributes, even a little, gets credit ). I feel like the modern FPS competitive scene is pretty much dead, so I want to think about why it is, and how it might be revived. Thanks for your time, everybody!

Lemme know what you need. I'm always shooting off my mouth, why not have it go to something productive.

Your thoughts on Quake as...
1) A Competitive game
2) A Casual game
3) A community
Basically, how do you feel that Quake (particularly Quake Live) satisfies the definition of a competitive game (and the other aspects listed above), and why does it succeed and/or fail. Basically, what do you like and dislike about Quake as a game and as a community?
