QL move to Steam-Your Thoughts? (Read 704 times)

While I'm not overly happy with a lot of the game changes, I am happy to see so many servers and different game modes played with the influx of Steam people..

I can also predict (cough,cough) That you will see some changes to "Classic" in the future for those of you that have a "Pro" account and run servers..Some things will be re instated.. Runes will not return to CTF though..

My main Piss off is QL goes Steam..And the Forums go down!..How are all these new people going to get help?

It's kind of a catch 22 thing in my eyes.  On the one hand I'm thrilled to see all of the full servers, especially for my favorite game type freeze tag.  It's great that I have the opportunity to play it any night of the week and that's exciting for me!  On the other hand it's almost impossible to find any competitive games anymore.  I generally only join tier 4 FT servers yet the other day my team lost 5-7, I ended with 12 thaws and my 4 teammates had a combined grand total of 0 thaws.  I finished with 43 points, 2nd place had 4 points.  That's frustrating.  It would be nice if the Play Now button would only lead the new players to tier 3 or lower servers but then if that happened there probably wouldn't be any FT servers available for me.  Catch 22....

Also, just so I don't come off looking like a , I do try to help the new players.  Although I'm not sure how well it's working.  I don't rage quit or go spec on them like I see a lot of people doing.  I finish my game and try to thaw them out as often as I can before I die.  If I'm obviously the strongest player on the server then I don't stay and "noobstomp", I'll go to another server and let them play each other competitively.

I really dont give a Hoot.. Just as long as QL stays up and running..  But I am actually really stocked! I finally after 14 years,, won a Q3 Arena FFA Match.

I've not played enough to comment on the steam update, but from the 2 or 3 games I have played servers maybe full, but players getting roflstomped then quit quarter way thru the match and poor wookiee is left 2v4 (was 1v4 before someone swapped out of pity)  I seem to always get the new players on my team though which I'm not overly bothered about if they actually stayed and played instead of leaving.

I'm going to take a month off playing quake anyways because am a little bit de-motivated to play at the moment.  (this seems to be a normal occurance every year around this time though so no biggie)

There is a new tutorial for the new players.Stil this isnt enouch to let them al start on t4 servers.Almost every server is spawned with new players making servers uneven.Its bad for the new ones cause they get owned and bad for the old players cause teams are uneven,filled with to easy players etc.Takes fun away for both...Also that the forum is off,all things id should have thought of to prevent it.No public ictf or ift servers anymore.well at least you can shoot some easy newbies now haha.Al those new players are good for the game,but it could have been done on a better way.

They fucked up (can I swear here?) by taking the Quake Live forums offline, so much info is there yet its inaccessible unless you click the google cache, but not everyone thinks to do that.
The numbers are dropping again, there was around 6000 playing upon the first week of release at weekends,  its stedily dropped to what it is now, around 2000-3000.

I like that it is possible to join one of your steam friends in a game without them being your friend in Quake Live.
Just had my first Duel match ever and lost, btu I did much better than I expected because he always beat me massively in other games
