QL will transition to a stand alone app by the end of the year. Linux and OSX will not be supported. Article hereMy thoughts.. For mac users it's very easy to bootcamp XP or Win7. You can find copies of XP pretty much for cheap or free. I ran QL in XP on my mac..And it performed very well. I'll be curious if the stand alone app will run in wine in Linux. It's a bitch to set up OpenGL support in wine..but doable..

I suppose they kinda stopped supporting mac anyways. So many issues with it but they just didn't do anything.
But bootcamping is easy enough to do so shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Quite a few people I know use Linux so will be interesting to see what happens there.

From ESR posted by syncerror. We are excited to announce that QUAKE LIVE will be transitioning out of a web browser and into a standalone, downloadable game by the end of this year. Over the past few years, browser support for plugins such as QUAKE LIVE have dropped off significantly, causing problems for plugins to operate in a consistent and working manner. With the recent announcement of Google Chrome's roadmap to turning off plugin support and the upcoming changes in Firefox, it seems that now is the time to make the transition. Once we go live with this change, you will log in to the site as you normally would. From there you will be presented with a prompt to download the new QUAKE LIVE Launcher. The launcher will automatically keep your game up to date before loading. Once inside, you’ll will be greeted with the website, embedded directly into the game itself. From here, the interface will look and operate similarly to how it does today, but the game will already be running and ready to connect to a match. This change will allow us to have greater control over the game environment, and more tightly integrate the game with the online components going forward. Some of these benefits will be apparent from day one: getting in and out of games is a smoother experience, and you will be able to view server pings from the match browser before joining the game to better judge connection quality. Thoughts? For 1 thing no more QLPrism.. All those lovely scripts down the tube.. auto invites, no having to wait for 15 seconds on the game if you're a free player,etc..etc.. I'm sure I'll come up with more..
I'm wondering if this will affect QLTools, wolfcam etc?

I think we'll just have to wait and see. He said that joining and disconnecting will take much less time. Maybe they won't even have the 15 second ad anymore. Who knows. What I actually fear the most is that they make QL standalone, fix some bugs and then drop QL development. No new maps, gamemodes etc. We can be glad that they still support QL to this point. What I really like about the standalone client is the idea that you might get more fps with an old machine. Not that I have low fps, but I remember 2 years ago when Is still played on my old laptop and maps like asylum dropped my fps to 30 and less :/

I think they will keep the dm_73 file format the demos are saved in so I don't think wolfwhisperer will be affected. But even if they do change the save file format I am sure it will be a relatively simple update for them to change wolfwhisperer.
But QL prism will more than likely be the biggest casualty. But you never know they might take some of the better scripts and implement them into the new quake live.
I hope they do, because some very useful scripts have been developed for prism.

They will also not use the scripts that give us an edge.. no waiting on ads, stay alive script, etc.. I'm sure they will not let the launcher get tampered with by 3'rd party add ons..

Yea I think the ad blocking scripts will be smashed with a hammer. But someone will think of something to get round it after a while of it being released.

Syncerror announced that it will work very well in the latest version of wine for Linux..That still leaves OSX users having to bootcamp Windows..
