you don't really need a super computer to run QL.
As long as you set it up properly i.e detail level, effects yadda yadda yadda you can get it playing fairly well even on the most basic of systems.
Well at work they have the crummiest computers around. Really really old.
But just turn down the graphics and stuff and it works pretty well.

As my old macbook still had problems with QL when booting into Win7 (It's because it has an old Intel X3100 card) Even QL says they have problems with it. I got a bargain on a cheap HP Compaq Presario CQ56 lappy. (brand new in the box still sealed for $150 USD) 2.4ghz AMD V-Series V140 radeon hd 4200 upped the ram to 8 gigs HP S2031 20"HD monitor basic microshit mouse thin micro apple keyboard Uninstalled Win7 and installed Xubuntu.. Use QLprism 64 bit for Linux I've full graphics and can mess with bloom, etc,etc.. Happy..Happy! Now all I need to do is replace my cheap DSL router that craps out once an hour..

At the moment i'm using an old pentium 4 which barely can handle quake. It has a 2.6 cpu, nvidea 9800gt,200g memory and 2g ddr1. Logitech gaming mouse, logitech g110 gaming keyboard and 22 inc flatscreen.q pad pro gaming mouse pad, steelseries gaming headphone with mic.
Next week my new pc wil be ready, stil waiting for the new motherboard. it's going to be an asus motherboard with quad core 4x2.6 probably a big cpu cooler, still looking for it.it also has ddr3 memory. atx 550watt feeding,al into a cooltek k3 evolution case:) Think i'm gonna be very happy next week and at last can play quake normal.

Computer: HP Pavilion dv6 something, crappy notebook with lots of problems but good enough for an amateur playing of QL.
Mouse: Roccat Pyra Notebook Gaming Mouse Wired max 1600dpi. Recently updated, the difference with the previous cheap mouse is evident. Suitable for all-around use thanks to the 2 extra "easy-use" buttons and for people who have very small hands like me.
Mousepad: Roccat Taito Mini-Size/3mm. A good quality/price ratio. Mouse+Mousepad total expense: 44€ (34+10).
Headphones: Nokia WH-701, not so bad but expensive as hell.

Do some of you use a 120Hz monitor? Did you feel a significant improvement compared to a 60Hz? Some days I want to change (but since at the moment I have no money problem is solved!)
Anyway, I'm pretty happy with the rest of my equipment: mx518 mouse, func 1030 mousepad and steelseries G6 keyboard. Very classic gear but build for a life time, I recommend it (though I heard they stopped manufacturing the func).

Sadly, only 60Hz but it does the job for me..Though these 120's are getting cheaper so it might just become the new standard, if it isn't already.

I'm using the samsung full hd 23 inch led screen now and have to say that the view is whay better then my old screen.(and that whas already a good one) mx518 is a good mouse,i have him on my old pc because sometimes he didnt work anymore after a year and a half of quake. Now im using the g400,is the new mx518.And have to say its even better then my old 518,which is hard to imagine. But im also using a soft mousepad now.(hope this whay i wont brake it that fast)My new pc is quadcore 4x3.6 with 4g ram of the 16 i can put in.All put in a cooltek cooling tower, keyboard is stil the logitech g110.And my headphone now is the fatality set. Quite an improvement if i look at my last post here. I think the most important is to have a good mouse and headset.(and ofcourse your pc has to run the 125fps on quake)Which my old pc didnt.Sow i improved a lot only by getting me better equipmemt to play.

Well my first post is kinda out-dated, I got a new setup february, new comp, new monitor... 8gb RAM AMD FX-6100 6x 3.30 gHz Nvidia Geforce GT520 monitor: Hanns.G HS233H3B @1920x1080@120Hz keyboard: razer arctosa mouse: microsoft comfort 4500 mousepad: still a steelseries QcK+ headset: still sennheiser PC151 I changed my mouse because the razer abyssus kept breaking, I liked it alot but I can't stand waiting 3 days until a replacement arrives... keyboard ist just a cheap razer since I didn't have a keyboard for my PC since I used a laptop before. I can feel the difference between 120Hz and 60Hz. I doesn't hurt my eyes that much. I don't really feel a difference while playing but I can play longer without taking a break. Furthermore everything looks smoother I think. My monitor was like 200€ so it wasn't that expensive that's why I decided to go for a 120Hz
