I've been thinking about this for awhile now. If there's enough interest I'd like to start a friendly duel competition that's fair and even for everyone at all skill levels so everyone feels they have a chance to win. I've broken it down into two main parts, a handicap system for the games and a points system for the overall competition.
*Duel nights once per week (Sunday nights?) *Single game round robin style so everyone plays everyone else one time per night. *Handicap frag system to promote even and fair game play across skill levels. *Points system updated weekly with monthly competitions (points reset each month, handicap is not). - One point for each game played (rewards attendance) *edit - 1 point per night* - One point for a win - Bonus points awarded for dominance, 1 point for each 5 frag difference; example: 6-1 is one bonus point 11-1 is two bonus points. (this will hopefully prevent slumming to artificially lower opponents' handicaps) *Loser from previous match of the two players gets map pick (opening night decided by coin toss) *No prize fund, you're playing for the glory!
Handicap System Records will be kept of the score for every game played. Your handicap will be your average frag deficit with a maximum of 5 frags per game. (So if you lose by 12 frags you only get to count 5 for your averaging.) Limiting the handicap to 5 frags will keep losing on maps like Aerowalk from artificially inflating anyone's handicap to high levels while keeping the frag difference within a reasonable range for slower maps like Bloodrun. Handicaps will be rounded up. So if you average a 1.2 frag deficit you will get a 2 frag handicap, likewise if you have a .01 frag average deficit you will get a 1 frag handicap. However, in order to win a map you must finish the game with a positive score. Handicap player wins all ties.
Example: If you come into a game with a 5 frag handicap in your favor and the score is 0-3 in your opponent's favor you can not win by running away and trying to not lose by 5 frags, you must have have at least a score of 1. However, if the score ends 1-5 in your opponent's favor, you win. Handicap player also wins all ties, so if the previous example game ends 1-6 you get one point for the victory and your opponent gets one bonus point for dominance. Each player would also get 1 point just for playing. So both players would come out of that game 2 points each.
Obviously many things could change to make the competition more fair and even which will have to be looked at as this competition unfolds. Points system and handicap may be subject to change. The handicap system is obviously going to be the part that will need the most work. I'm sure at first the handicaps will vary wildly but hopefully with enough games played it will start to level out for everyone. If there's interest I might even buy Pro so I can host a server for this.
This would also be an invite only competition to keep the playing field closer in skill level. Of course all DNA member are welcome. At first lets keep this exclusively for DNA members, at least until the bugs are worked out.
Thoughts? Ideas? Feedback?

Actually, I think maybe only 1 point should be awarded for each night you play, not each game you play. That way you can miss a night and not be too far behind. So in the above example for the 5 point handicap 1-6 loss, you would each get 1 point for that game. Another point would be awarded to each player for showing up to play that night but limited to only that one point. Otherwise, if 7 people showed up everyone would have gotten an extra 7 points instead of 1 making it harder to come back if you miss that night.

I am interested. Also, making it Sunday nights means that there is a high chance that I would be able to participate more frequently than on, say, a Friday or a Saturday.
Gimme a little bit to think about the fairness aspect? It looks pretty solid, but there could be ways to streamline and ameliorate it- once I get a couple essays out of the way I can go over this!

If this gets off the ground I'm sure it will go through lots of changes. Do you think a 5 frag handicap is enough? Should it be more? Can you think of a better way to form a handicap system altogether? For awhile I was trying to figure how to have a fluctuating handicap depending on your opponent. I couldn't figure out anything that wouldn't take a ton of games. So instead I modeled it off of a bowling league but with a cap.

I'm in if it's on Sunday nights (until September for sure (and forget me during long weekend (like Easter))). Not sure I will like it but I'm in to at least try it! With the handicap system, it may helps me against some of you
